An autopsy report has revealed the cause of death of 22-year-old Afrofuji singer, Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
The young artiste, known for blending traditional Yoruba Fuji with modern Afrobeats, died on January 17, 2026, under circumstances that sparked widespread reactions and calls for an investigation.
Following his death, videos circulated on social media showing his body being transported to a mortuary, with visible cotton wool in his nostrils and ears, fueling speculation about the cause of his death.
An associate of the deceased later disclosed that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health condition before his death, noting that efforts were made to save him but proved unsuccessful.
Family members also confirmed that the singer had been living with a long-term illness that reportedly caused seizures, adding that both medical and traditional treatments had been explored.
Amid the controversy, the Ogun State Police Command commenced an investigation into the incident and arrested a suspect in connection with the case, which was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the case was under detailed investigation, with one suspect in custody.
According to Dailytrust report, findings further revealed that the case file had been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice, while an autopsy was conducted by the police homicide unit.
The police spokesperson later confirmed that the autopsy report had been released, disclosing that toxicology results showed harmful levels of tramadol, its metabolites, and methamphetamine in the deceased’s body.
According to the report, the cause of death was identified as aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of the toxic substances.
Destiny Boy rose to prominence in 2019 after his Fuji rendition of If by Davido gained massive attention online. He later delivered covers of songs by notable artistes including Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.
He also released tracks such as ‘Lamba’, ‘One Transaction’, ‘Gbese’, ‘Billion Dollar’, ‘Mio Gbonkankan’, and ‘Lowkey’. The late singer welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024.
