A young boy identified as Umar from Magami town in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State has vowed to join the Nigerian Army to fight bandits following the killing of his father by suspected armed attackers.
The development was revealed in a video shared on X on Tuesday by Bakatsine, a journalist known for reporting insecurity and conflict-related issues in Nigeria’s North-West region.
In the video, Umar recounted how he witnessed the killing of his father, saying the incident inspired his ambition to become a soldier.
Speaking in Hausa, the boy explained that his father was attacked shortly after returning from the market.
According to him, his father had harvested seven baskets of red pepper, sold them and used the proceeds to buy rice and other food items for the family.
Umar said his father intended for the family to share a meal together and had gone to get fresh pepper for soup before he was attacked and killed by the assailants.
He further alleged that the attackers later invaded their home and assaulted members of the family.
The boy said the tragic loss of his father strengthened his resolve to join the military, expressing a desire to confront those responsible for the attack.
He also prayed for God’s mercy on his late father and other victims who have lost their lives to bandit attacks.
