Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has pledged to continue praying for Nigeria’s unity for the rest of his life, while calling for greater investment in security to address insecurity and stimulate economic growth.
Kalu made the remarks after receiving a souvenir from Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, at the end of his visit to Sokoto State, where he commissioned 10 road projects executed by the state government in the Arkilla New Layout.
In a statement issued by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, the senator described insecurity as a major obstacle to Nigeria’s economic progress and improvement in citizens’ welfare.
He stressed that stronger security measures were needed to support economic expansion, create prosperity and improve living conditions for Nigerians.
Kalu commended the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that while macroeconomic indicators were showing signs of improvement, the benefits had yet to be fully felt by ordinary citizens.
The former governor, who described himself as an industrialist, said he had informed the President that the country’s macroeconomy was performing better than the microeconomy, where many Nigerians were still facing economic hardship.
He expressed confidence that increased investment in security would enable citizens to benefit more from economic gains and foster broader national development.
Kalu also reiterated his commitment to Nigeria’s unity, saying he would continue to pray and advocate for the country’s oneness throughout his lifetime.
He further thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the invitation to Sokoto and for the opportunity to commission the completed road projects.
