A supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly lost his life, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a trailer allegedly rammed into participants of a campaign walk in Ede, Osun State.
The incident reportedly occurred at Oke Gada during the “Walk for AMBO Victory” organised in support of the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
A member of the party, Olufunsho Fagbohungbe, disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
According to him, the trailer driver claimed the vehicle suffered brake failure before crashing into the crowd of APC supporters participating in the campaign procession.
Fagbohungbe said the accident claimed the life of one Ahmed Abdulrasak, who was among those taking part in the walk.
He stated that Abdulrasak, who was alive earlier in the day, died following the incident and was subsequently buried in Ede.
He further disclosed that the deceased is survived by a baby said to be less than three months old.
Fagbohungbe added that several other victims who sustained injuries in the crash are currently receiving medical treatment at different hospitals.
The APC supporters were said to be participating in the rally as part of activities leading to the inauguration of the party’s unit canvassers for the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from relevant authorities regarding the incident.
