Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has declared support for the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adewale Adebayo, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Oyinlola also dismissed suggestions that the political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other stakeholders would work for Governor Ademola Adeleke or any other political party, insisting that the coalition’s focus remains on securing victory for APM candidates.
The former governor made this known while addressing journalists at his residence in Okuku after a meeting with APM candidates for the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 National and State Assembly polls. The meeting was attended by party candidates and leaders led by Adebayo.
According to Oyinlola, the gathering was convened to familiarise party members with the candidates and fine-tune strategies ahead of the forthcoming elections.
He explained that the alliance between APM and PDP had been formalised earlier and would serve as the foundation for their electoral plans for both the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
Oyinlola said the coalition was determined to build a formidable political force capable of taking over government through the ballot, adding that the meeting also served as an opportunity to sensitise the public about APM’s readiness for the elections.
The former governor stressed that the endorsement of candidates by the alliance was strictly for those contesting on the platform of the APM and not for any other political party.
He subsequently urged party members and supporters to intensify mobilisation efforts and work diligently to ensure the victory of Adebayo in the August 15 governorship poll.
