A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Taofeeq Mustapha, has alleged that he was shot by unidentified gunmen in the Oluode Aranyin area of Osogbo, Osun State.
According to The Punch, the incident occurred on Saturday when the assailants, who reportedly arrived in a minibus, opened fire on Mustapha.
In a video seen by The Publication, the victim, who sustained gunshot wounds to his legs, alleged that the attackers targeted him because he was wearing an APC campaign fez cap bearing the inscription “AMBO,” the campaign acronym of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Mustapha claimed the gunmen were wearing fez caps bearing the inscription of the Accord Party. He alleged that after noticing his AMBO cap, they repeatedly shot at him. He said he narrowly escaped death and appealed to Nigerians for help, alleging that his attackers had been after his life.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that the command was aware of the incident.
Ojelabi disclosed that an investigation had commenced into the shooting. He added that although the victim was initially offered medical treatment, members of his family chose to take him elsewhere for further care.
Police said investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.
