Veteran Nigerian actor Dele Odule has revealed that he once considered purchasing his own casket during a difficult period in his life.
He made the disclosure in an interview with Feelright TV while reflecting on some of his lowest moments.
Recounting the experience, the actor said he took the step at a time when he felt overwhelmed and hopeless about his career.
He noted that he was accompanied by his colleague, Olaiya Igwe, during the visit.
Odule explained that his decision was not due to illness but was driven by frustration over what he perceived as a lack of progress in the film industry.
He said he had become discouraged after comparing his situation with that of his peers, whom he believed were more successful.
According to him, the experience reflected a moment when he had lost confidence in achieving breakthroughs in his career.
He added that his colleague became emotional during the visit, reacting strongly to the situation.
The actor noted that he eventually overcame that phase and continued with his career.
He said, “I had priced my own casket before, when I was in a state of hopelessness, and complete loss of hope. Olaiya Igwe went there with me. Olaiya started crying like a baby.
“I wasn’t sick, I just believed I can no longer have breakthroughs in the industry. I was fed up. Because all my school mates are doing far better than me and my life was nothing to write home about,” he said.
According to reports, Dele Odule began his acting career in the 1970s and gained prominence in 1993 following his role in the Yoruba classic ‘Ti Oluwa Nile’.
