A 23-year-old woman, Ugwu Tessy, who got married as a teenager, has revealed that she returned her bride price to her estranged husband through a bank transfer after he allegedly refused to accept it from her family.
Tessy said she got married in 2020 and is now 23 years old, meaning she was about 17 when she entered the marriage.
The marriage produced three children before it eventually ended.
According to her, her estranged husband refused to collect the bride price from her kinsmen after the marriage ended, leaving her traditionally connected to him.
She explained that returning the bride price was important to her because she wanted to move on from the marriage, especially as she is now in a new relationship.
Tessy took to Facebook on September 9 to share a screenshot of the bank transfer, explaining that she had sent the amount paid as her bride price directly to her ex-husband.
She said the bank transfer was her way of returning the bride price after her former husband allegedly declined to receive it through her kinsmen.
She wrote : “I called my ex-husband for us to have a conversation & talk maturely like adults that we are concerning our 3 kids that since January 9 months we divorced he hasn’t sent a dime shi-shi kobo for 3 whole kids down from school fees, feeding, medications , clothing, etc nothing nothing. he doesn’t even care weather they are feeding, schooling or not while he has money is not as if he’s broke. & he told me that God forbid bad thing that he will never ever in his entire life send anything for them. That he have the money but he will not send. Ok now school hv resumed & we all know how Abuja schools are expensive especially this my area any good school here is expensive. & my 3 kids needs to be registered this first term entering b/c they hv been home for terms due to the quarry’s between I & my ex & he refusal for putting them in school. Now good school that is closer to my house Incase of picking them up there registration for first entrance is 370k per child including there main school book, test book, different wears like practically everything. Now multiply 370k into 3 = 1,110,000 I even told him to come make the enquirements himself in the school to be sure am telling the truth. The main point is that am not even asking him to bring all but to contribute even if it’s half or quarter of the money. b/c I know am married now soo am not expecting him to do all they are also my kids & have be taking care of their bills from head to toes 3 of them for 9 good months now. He still insisted, shouted at me as if am still under him that as he say & will always say that he will never ever ever that over his dead 💀 body will he ever send money to me for them. All I have to say is that is well. God is watching.

“A dispatch rider called me and said my ex-husband gave him some documents to bring to my house. and he was just demanding that he must deliver it in my house my compound. I refused & insisted that if they cannot snap it & send it to me let them leave it. Am not giving them any adress. Here are the letters they letter snap and sent after some hours. Her post sparked reactions, with some other social media users stating that their families returned theirs the same way when their husbands refused to collect it.
