Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Monday declared that attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to stop his re-election bid had failed.
Adeleke made the declaration during a press conference in Osogbo while reacting to the recent court judgment on the deregistration of Accord, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and some other political parties.
The governor described the decision of the Federal High Court as an affront to the Court of Appeal, an abuse of court process, and a threat to the integrity of the electoral process.
He maintained that the matter was already before the Court of Appeal, which had earlier stayed proceedings on the case until October.
According to him, it was surprising that the lower court proceeded to take action on a matter that had already been addressed by a higher court.
Adeleke disclosed that his legal team had taken the necessary steps to challenge the judgment and ensure that what he described as the wrong decision was corrected.
The governor called on residents of the state to remain calm, expressing confidence that the judgment would not stand.
He insisted that Accord would remain on the ballot for the August 15 governorship election and expressed optimism that his party would emerge victorious at the polls.
Adeleke further reassured his supporters that efforts by the Osun APC to frustrate his re-election bid had not succeeded.
He also urged party members and supporters to turn out in large numbers for the party’s flag-off rally scheduled to hold on Tuesday.
The governor said his administration and party would not be distracted by the development, stressing that they remained focused on the forthcoming election.
He expressed confidence that with the support of the people and the grace of God, continuity in governance would be secured in the August 15 governorship poll.
