A man was allegedly apprehended at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, after he was found in possession of a stolen mobile phone and several ATM cards said to belong to medical doctors.
The incident reportedly occurred within the hospital premises, where patients and staff had recently raised concerns over the disappearance of personal belongings.
According to reports, doctors and patients had complained about missing items, including phones, laptops, ATM cards and motorcycles.
The suspect was allegedly caught shortly after a mobile phone was reported stolen within the facility.
A witness who shared details of the incident on X said he was waiting in front of the Oral Surgery Clinic when he noticed the suspect enter the building.
The witness stated that moments later, people began raising an alarm, leading to the discovery that the same individual had allegedly stolen a phone from the clinic.
According to the witness, the stolen phone was immediately recovered from the suspect.
A search conducted on the man reportedly led to the recovery of several ATM cards said to belong to doctors at the hospital.
Some of the cards were reportedly identified as items that had been declared missing in recent weeks.
The witness further claimed that hospital workers had been experiencing repeated cases of theft involving phones, laptops, ATM cards and motorcycles.
The discovery of the ATM cards reportedly heightened suspicions that the suspect may have been linked to previous theft incidents within the hospital.
A witness wrote: ‘This thief was caught at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, just a few minutes ago. I had been waiting in front of the oral surgery clinic when he walked past me and went inside. A few minutes later, shouts of “Ole!” came from within. I got up to see what was happening, and it turned out to be the same man who had just walked by me.
‘The phone he stole was recovered from him on the spot.
‘The doctors began recounting how they had been losing items for some time, ranging from phones and laptops to ATM cards and even motorcycles. When they searched his pockets, they found ATM cards belonging to doctors that had been reported missing over the preceding weeks. It wasn’t his first time”
