A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and Director-General of the Osun West APC Governorship Campaign, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has dismissed speculations linking him with the political camp of Governor Ademola Adeleke, insisting that he remains a committed member of the APC.
Babayemi made the clarification in a statement issued on Saturday while reacting to a social media post by lawyer and public affairs commentator, Pelumi Olajengbesi, which associated his name with “Imole,” the political slogan of Governor Adeleke.
The APC stalwart described the insinuation as mischievous and misleading, saying the post had generated several calls and messages from people seeking confirmation of the claim.
According to him, linking his name with the governor’s political movement was an attempt to create a false impression about his political affiliation.
Babayemi stated that he had neither met Governor Adeleke privately nor publicly since they parted ways politically, challenging anyone with contrary evidence to present it.
He also denied having any direct or indirect political relationship with Olajengbesi that could justify linking him to the “Imole” political group.
The APC leader maintained that he remains one of the party’s major stakeholders in Osun State and is fully committed to ensuring the victory of the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), in the August 15 governorship election.
He further reaffirmed his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, stressing that neither he nor his supporters had any intention of leaving the APC.
Babayemi urged political actors to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid spreading misleading narratives, noting that politics should be played with decency and based on facts rather than emotions or sentiments.
He added that integrity requires individuals to remain committed to the ideals and causes they believe in, reiterating that his loyalty to the APC remains unwavering.
The statement reads, “My attention has been drawn to a Facebook publication where Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi, a learned colleague, somewhat innuendously prayed: “Omooba Dotun Babayemi, God bless you.Imole to the world!”
“This has triggered tons of messages and calls from well-meaning individuals within and outside the state wanting to confirm the veracity of the untrue claims authored by Mr. Olajengbesi.
“Linking my name to Imole, the signature tune of Governor Ademola Adeleke, is nothing but mischief. This is because since we parted ways, we have not met either openly or secretly anywhere. I challenge anyone to controvert this.
“Again, whether remotely or directly, I have never met Mr. Pelumi Olajengbesi to warrant linking my name, surreptitiously to the Imole political group. I say this with all sense of responsibility as a staunch member of APC.
“Politics is never played on the basis of emotions and sentiments, but facts. As a lawyer, Mr Olajengbesi knows that these are sacrosanct and true to the law profession. So it will be disheartening if someone like him will condescend to the ‘jankara’ level of politics that his post represents. To what end?
“In APC today by the grace of God, I am one of the major stakeholders in Osun State whose aim is to see to the victory of our candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), on August 15 gubernatorial election, and the reelection of President Bola Tinubu, come 2027. Nothing changes that!
“Together with my teeming supporters across the state, we remain solidly in APC and that resolve remains unshakable. We have shouted this at the rooftop and behind the curtains and so it is.
“Once again, I want to advice that politics should be played decently, especially by the people who should know. At any point in time, I pursue what I believe in and believe in whatever I pursue. This, I believe, is the hallmark of integrity.”
