Nigerian singer Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, has expressed frustration over low earnings from music streaming platforms despite releasing songs frequently.
In a recent video, the Zazu crooner lamented that his revenue from Apple Music remained poor even though he drops new songs almost every month and has a fan base both in Nigeria and abroad.
He explained that the income generated from his music streams was not commensurate with his efforts, noting that although some people attributed the low earnings to the relatively low value of Nigerian streams, he also has listeners in countries like the United States and other parts of the world.
Portable questioned the whereabouts of the revenue from his international audience, insisting that his global reach should translate into higher earnings.
The singer also disclosed that his streaming revenue is split into multiple parts, which further reduces the amount he eventually receives.
He appealed to popular music executive Don Jazzy for guidance on how to improve his earnings from digital streaming platforms.
According to him, he is willing to learn better strategies to monetise his music effectively and maximise returns from his Apple Music account.
Portable added that gaining proper knowledge about streaming revenue could significantly elevate his career, stating that with the right guidance, he could become one of the biggest artistes in Nigeria.
