The wife of the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mrs Titi Abubakar, has said her husband does not need Nigerians’ money but wants to give back to society if elected president in 2027.
Mrs Abubakar said this in a video shared on TV Platinum’s X page on Friday, where she was seen campaigning for her husband at a rally.
She described the former Vice-President as a philanthropist and an experienced politician who would not need to learn on the job if elected.
According to her, Atiku is an experienced politician who has served before and is capable of leading the country without having to learn the responsibilities of the office after assuming power.
The ADC chieftain’s wife also dismissed insinuations that her husband, who will turn 80 this year, still harboured personal ambitions for wealth or power, insisting that his motivation was to serve Nigerians.
She said Atiku wanted to give back to society what he had received from it, noting that questions about what he was still seeking in politics were unnecessary given his age.
Mrs Abubakar added that her husband intended to mentor young Nigerians on politics and governance, predicting that Nigerians could eventually demand that he serve a second term despite his reported intention to serve only one term.
She said Atiku would use his time in office to tutor his deputy, who could eventually succeed him after the completion of his tenure.
Mrs Abubakar also criticised the state of the country under the current administration, alleging that the constitution and rule of law had been undermined and that the economy was in poor condition.
She expressed concern about how Nigerians were coping with the current economic situation and the difficulties affecting their daily lives.
Mrs Abubakar further said that if Atiku became president, he would prepare his deputy to take over after his tenure, adding that Nigerians could eventually demand that he continue in office for a second term.
