The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Ogunsola Ojo, over the alleged unlawful possession of a human skull following the desecration of a grave in Oba-Ile, Osun State.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.
According to the police, the case followed a report made on June 17, 2026, by a complainant who discovered that the grave of his late elder brother, located within their family compound, had been tampered with.
The complainant reportedly visited the grave on June 15 and found that the skull of the deceased had been removed by unknown persons.
The police said operatives immediately commenced an investigation and, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Ogunsola Ojo.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly named two other suspects, Ayeloja Lateef, 40, and Azeez Rasheed, 50, as well as one Kunle Fatai, who is currently at large.
The Command said a search conducted at the residence of the fleeing suspect led to the recovery of the suspected human skull, which was allegedly concealed in an uncompleted building adjacent to his house.
The recovered skull has been documented and registered as an exhibit, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police added that the arrested suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Parts of the statement reads, “The Osun State Police Command have commenced investigation into a case involving alleged conspiracy, unlawful possession of a human skull, and misconduct with disregard to a corpse.
“On 17th June 2026 at about 0830hrs, the complainant reported at Oba-Ile Police Station that, upon visiting the grave of his late elder brother on 15th June 2026, located within their family compound, he discovered that the grave had been tampered with and the skull of the deceased had been removed by unknown person(s).
“Following the report, Police operatives immediately launched an investigation. Acting on credible intelligence, one suspect identified as Ogunsola Ojo ‘m’ aged 40 years, was arrested. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly implicated two other suspects identified as Ayeloja Lattef, ‘m; aged 40 years, and Azeez Rasheed, ‘m’ aged 50 years, as well as one Kunle Fatai, ‘m’ who is currently at large.
“Subsequent search operations conducted at the residence of the said Kunle Fatai led to the recovery of the suspected human skull concealed in an uncompleted building adjacent to his house. The recovered item has been documented and registered as an exhibit.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend the fleeing suspect. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the arrested suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public confidence in the rule of law.
