A man who claims to have attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) with presidential aspirant Peter Obi and also worked with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his banking career has shared his views on both men.
Speaking in an interview with digital creator Emir Sirdam, the man said he was a schoolmate of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and also shared a room with former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
During the interview, he expressed disappointment with his generation, saying they inherited a prosperous Nigeria but failed to leave the country in a better condition for younger generations.
According to him, members of his generation enjoyed access to scholarships, were effectively paid to attend school, and had employment opportunities waiting for them upon graduation.
He lamented that despite benefiting from those opportunities, they failed to create similar prospects for those who came after them.
The man recalled that after graduating, he joined Zenith Bank in 1992 following advice from Emefiele, who told him that banking was a lucrative profession.
He said Tinubu was serving as Chief Accountant of Mobil at the time, while Emefiele managed the company’s account and he worked under the former CBN governor.
Based on those experiences, he stated that he had personal knowledge of both Tinubu and Obi.
The interviewee expressed the belief that Peter Obi would make a significant impact if given the opportunity to lead the country, arguing that effective leadership does not necessarily require eight years in office.
He cited the performance of Abia State Governor Alex Otti as an example of how a leader can make noticeable changes within a short period.
The man also shared his views on Tinubu’s performance in office and Obi’s efforts to present himself as an alternative leadership option for Nigerians.
He said: “The reason I’m ashamed of my generation is that my generation enjoyed Nigeria so well and instead of leaving Nigeria better, we are leaving Nigeria worse than we met it,
“At that time, Tinubu was the Chief Accountant of Mobil, Emefiele was his account officer, I was working under Emefiele. So, I knew Tinubu one to one.
“What I’m going to tell you is that, I not only knew Tinubu very well, I also knew Peter Obi very well.
“I’ve seen both of them clearly and closely and that’s the reason I’m telling Nigerians if only you can give Peter Obi a chance. After four years, I swear, if he leaves, you’re going to call him back, saying ‘Oga, you can’t go’. Just the way Alex Otti is doing.”
“It doesn’t take eight years to make an impact.”
