A suspected kidnapper, Alex Kehinde, has confessed to the Delta State Police Command that he and his accomplice killed an 80-year-old man and later collected N2 million ransom from his son.
The suspect made the confession in a video shared by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
Kehinde disclosed that his accomplice, who is currently at large, introduced the plan to kidnap the victim, who had earlier contracted him for a renovation job.
He said the incident occurred on February 3, 2026, when they lured the elderly man to his building under the pretext of fixing a plumbing issue.
The suspect explained that they took the victim upstairs, forced him to sit on the ground, and covered his mouth and nose with foam to prevent him from shouting, which eventually led to his death.
He added that after the act, they fled the scene with the victim’s phone and motorcycle, later selling the phone at Ogbe-Ogonogo market.
The police spokesperson, Edafe, confirmed that the victim had earlier engaged the suspect for renovation work and had paid him N200,000 for the project.
He said the suspect and his accomplice later conspired to kidnap the man due to financial difficulties, leading to the fatal incident.
Edafe further disclosed that after killing the victim, the suspects inserted his SIM card into another phone and contacted his son, falsely claiming that the victim had been kidnapped.
He noted that the suspects subsequently collected N2 million ransom from the victim’s son despite already killing the man.
The police spokesperson described the incident as tragic and disturbing, noting that investigations were ongoing while efforts were being made to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.
