The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted its National Campaign Council and several sub-committees ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, appointing Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as chairman of the campaign council.
The party said the move was part of efforts to coordinate its nationwide campaign structure and mobilise support for its candidate in the forthcoming governorship poll.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to the statement, the campaign council was constituted through a notice signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.
The APC said Uzodimma, who is also Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, will lead the National Campaign Council.
It also named Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, as co-chairmen of the council.
The party further appointed the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, as deputy chairman, while Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, will serve as secretary of the council.
According to the APC, the campaign council comprises governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, as well as other party stakeholders drawn from across the country to drive its campaign ahead of the election.
The party also announced the constitution of specialised sub-committees to coordinate various aspects of the campaign, including election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots mobilisation, logistics and campaign management, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women’s mobilisation, mobilisation of persons with disabilities and secretariat functions.
The APC said the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees would be inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre, Abuja.
Osun is among the states scheduled to conduct an off-cycle governorship election this year, with political parties intensifying campaigns and strategic preparations ahead of the August 15 poll.
