Charles Soludo has announced a crackdown on alleged fake pastors and prophets accused of staging fraudulent miracles and exploiting residents of Anambra State.
The governor disclosed this on Sunday during the All Knights Day celebration of the Catholic Diocese of Awka held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Soludo revealed that several clerics suspected to be involved in deceptive religious practices had already been arrested and were currently in custody.
According to the governor, the affected individuals were allegedly exploiting vulnerable people through what he described as false teachings centred on “salvation without the cross.”
He stated that the state government had commenced measures aimed at sanitising the religious space and curbing activities of individuals using religion to deceive members of the public.
Soludo also challenged individuals claiming to possess genuine miracle-working powers to demonstrate such abilities at Amaku Teaching Hospital rather than during public gatherings.
The governor maintained that his administration remained committed to building what he described as a new Anambra free from deception and fraudulent religious practices.
He added that investigations and arrests connected to the crackdown were ongoing across the state.
