Actor Yul Edochie has stirred reactions on social media after expressing strong views about politician Peter Obi.
In a post shared on X on Thursday morning, Edochie questioned Obi’s identity as a representative of Igbo values, arguing that he does not embody the spirit associated with the people.
The actor claimed that Obi lacks the qualities of leadership, stating that he does not reflect the communal and supportive nature traditionally attributed to the Igbo.
He referenced the Igbo philosophy of “onye aghana nwanne ya,” which emphasises lifting others while rising, noting that true leadership involves empowering people.
Edochie argued that despite Obi’s years in public office and success in business, there are no widely known individuals who can attribute their success to his influence.
He further alleged that Obi has not made significant impact even within his immediate circle, including family members.
Drawing a comparison with his own career, Edochie stated that several individuals in Nollywood can attest to achieving success through his support.
He maintained that no such claims have been publicly associated with Obi.
The actor also questioned Obi’s use of influence and resources, suggesting that leadership should be reflected in the ability to uplift others from poverty.
He concluded that anyone unable to positively impact those around them may lack the capacity to address broader national challenges.
He wrote, ‘’Peter Obi is not a true Igbo man.He does not have the spirit of Ndi Igbo in him. He’s not a leader. The true spirit of Ndi Igbo is ‘onye aghana nwanne ya’.
“As you rise you lift others. How can you spend many years in power, many years as a successful business man, yet nobody can say he’s successful today because of you.
“You can’t even lift your family members. In Nollywood, there are people who will tell you they’re successful today because of Yul Edochie. Not one person can say that about Peter Obi.Are you a saddist?
“What are you doing with the power God has given you?If you can’t lift people around you out of poverty, you simply can’t lift Nigeria out of poverty.”
The post has since generated mixed reactions among social media users, with opinions divided over the actor’s remarks.
