A woman abducted from the Kasuwan Magani area of Kaduna State has regained her freedom after five months in captivity, returning home pregnant.
Journalist Reuben Buhari disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Thursday, April 30, 2026, stating that the victim was released two days earlier.
Providing details of her ordeal, Buhari said the woman suffered severe physical and sexual abuse during her time in captivity, underscoring the harsh conditions faced by female victims of kidnapping.
He added that the victim had opted to terminate the pregnancy but could not proceed due to her fragile health condition, which required urgent medical stabilisation, including blood transfusion.
According to Buhari, the woman was abducted while caring for her critically ill mother in Kasuwan Magani when gunmen invaded the residence and took four persons away.
He explained that she spent five months in the bush, where she battled hunger, illness, and repeated assaults by her captors.
Buhari noted that she eventually regained her freedom after the ransom demanded by the kidnappers was paid.
He disclosed that medical examination conducted after her release confirmed that she was pregnant as a result of repeated sexual abuse in captivity.
He further stated that her plan to terminate the pregnancy had been delayed due to her weak condition, as doctors advised that she must first regain strength and receive blood support.
He also revealed that the victim sustained physical strain, including swollen feet, having remained barefoot throughout her ordeal.
Buhari described her experience as deeply traumatic, noting that the conditions she endured, including how female victims manage basic hygiene in captivity, are distressing and difficult to recount.
He added that the case reflects the harsh realities faced by many women who fall victim to kidnapping across the country.
