Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested two students of Rumuolumeni Community Secondary School in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area over alleged involvement in internet fraud, popularly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo.”
The arrest was reportedly carried out by officials of the anti-graft agency in Port Harcourt following intelligence reports and investigations into the activities of the suspects.
Sources said the operatives raided the students’ residence at Nkpor Village on Sunday during the operation.
According to eyewitness accounts, the EFCC officials allegedly scaled the fence of the compound before gaining access to the apartment where the suspects were arrested.
Several electronic gadgets suspected to be connected to the alleged cybercrime activities were also reportedly recovered during the operation.
Residents further alleged that the students had been living extravagant lifestyles, including driving expensive vehicles and frequently displaying huge sums of money within the school premises.
The development, according to sources, had attracted attention and admiration from some students and even members of staff before the arrest.
