The Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman who later died after allegedly consuming insecticide.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the arrest in a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.
According to Edafe, the 40-year-old suspect allegedly invited the victim to Asaba under the pretext of teaching her content creation.
He alleged that the suspect lured the young woman to his hotel room, where she was allegedly tortured and raped.
Edafe further stated that the victim, who was traumatised by the incident, recorded a video recounting her experience before allegedly taking insecticide.
He added that she later died while receiving treatment.
Edafe wrote, “The Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular content creator, one Ifeanyi Ogbonna, male, aged 40, also populary known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old girl. The suspect invited the victim to asaba in the guise of teaching her content creation, lured her to his hotel room, allegedly tortured and řápêd her. The deceased who could not withstand the trauma, made a video of her encounter, then took insecticide, she eventually died while receiving treatment.”
Human rights activist, Israel Joe, also shared details of the incident on his official Facebook page on Tuesday.
According to him, the deceased, identified as Favour Agbro from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, had contacted the content creator after learning that he trained young people on how to monetise their TikTok and Facebook pages.
The activist alleged that the suspect invited her to Asaba for the training and promised to help her build a successful social media career.
Joe further alleged that despite informing the suspect during their WhatsApp conversations that she was a virgin and not interested in any romantic relationship, the suspect assured her that the training would only take place in a hotel.
He claimed that the suspect later forced himself on the victim, leaving her seriously injured.
According to the activist, the victim contacted her twin sister and mother after the incident, and her family sent her transport fare to return to Warri.
Joe also alleged that the victim later reported the matter to an activist who allegedly told her that the suspect was influential and that little could be done.
He said the young woman subsequently bought insecticide, consumed it and later died.
Joe wrote, “Her name is Favour Agbro from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. She was deceived by a popular content creator based in Asaba that he teaches young people how to make monies through monetizing their Tiktok and Facebook pages to help them go viral and get views.
“This young girl chatted him up, he invited her to come over to Asaba for the training and that he will help her. The girl got there and he said they should enter into the room. This girl told him even in their WhatsApp conversation that she is a virgin and doesn’t want anything relationship. He promised her that he only teaches in the hotel.
“But guess what! He forced her, closed her mouth, gr.ape her ruthlessly until she began to bleed profusely yet didn’t give her food, drugs or anything to help her strength. She cried and shouted, called her twin sister telling her what has happened. She called and mother and they sent her transport fare to come back to Warri.
“Unfortunately, she reported to an activist who told her the guy is influential and nothing could be done after getting all the details. She went, bought a snipper, drank it, committing sųícíɗɛ.”
