The decomposing body of a hairstylist identified simply as Kemisola has been discovered inside her apartment in the Jaleyemi area of Osogbo, Osun State.
A co-tenant of the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said he noticed that the door to Kemisola’s room was partly open on Thursday morning, May 7, 2026.
He explained that the deceased had not been seen around the house for some time, prompting him to check on her after several greetings went unanswered.
The co-tenant said he eventually discovered her lifeless body lying on the bed inside the room.
According to him, he initially greeted her after noticing the apartment door open, but became worried when there was no response.
He added that he decided to inspect the room and was shocked to find her decomposing remains on the bed.
The neighbour noted that he did not know her full name, explaining that they only exchanged greetings and occasional pleasantries as neighbours.
Another resident in the area, identified simply as Jide, said he last saw Kemisola on Monday.
Jide explained that the foul odour coming from the room on Tuesday was initially suspected to be from a dead rat until her corpse was eventually discovered.
Before the body was evacuated, a knife, a mobile phone, and an empty bottle containing an unidentified substance were reportedly found on the bed beside the deceased.
Also speaking, a man who identified himself as the elder brother of the deceased said he last saw Kemisola on Monday after she returned from a trip to Igbajo.
He explained that she had informed him she would return to see him later, but he did not hear from her again until news of her death emerged.
The man described the deceased as a hairstylist and expressed shock over the incident.
Another neighbour, Damilola, described Kemisola as a friendly and cheerful person.
She explained that the deceased had moved out of the apartment about three months ago due to irregular power supply and had been staying with her maternal uncle.
According to Damilola, Kemisola only visited the apartment occasionally and had returned on Monday before the tragic incident.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the matter was reported to the police on Thursday.
Ojelabi disclosed that the remains had been evacuated while an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
He added that preliminary observations showed no visible mark of violence on the deceased, noting that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
