A political aide to the Osun State Governor, Akintunde Sheriff, has criticised what he described as attempts to position the son of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for the Osun Central Senatorial seat.
Sheriff, in a post shared on his social media page on Monday, expressed concern over what he termed the growing trend of political influence and imbalance in the state, questioning the propriety of such moves within the same political period.
He queried whether established aspirants would be sidelined in favour of Femi Oyetola, citing the recent disqualification of an aspirant identified as Krad, which he alleged was done to pave the way for another candidate.
The aide contrasted the situation with what he described as the political culture within the Adeleke family, noting that they had, in the past, prioritised fairness over family ties.
He referenced the 2007 local government elections, where a relative of the Adeleke family, Sikiru Adeleke, reportedly stepped aside despite showing interest in contesting for chairman.
According to him, the family supported Kazeem Akinleye, who later emerged as chairman and is currently serving as Chief of Staff to the Osun State Governor.
Sheriff argued that the decision at the time demonstrated restraint and commitment to broader political interests rather than personal or family advantage.
He alleged that the current situation involving Femi Oyetola reflects a different approach, suggesting that other aspirants, including Biyi Ajagunla and Adegboye Akintunde, may be unfairly displaced.
The governor’s aide also drew a comparison with national politics, noting that President Bola Tinubu has not positioned his son for elective office despite his influence.
He concluded by commending the Adeleke family for what he described as their humility, integrity, and fear of God in handling political matters.
Sheriff wrote, “Life is not balanced at all and politics is crazy. Oyetola is Minister and his Son wants to be a Senator in the same era. Will Oyetola disqualify an eminent Aspirant such as Krad for a Femi Oyetola? Recall that Krad was disgracefully disqualified few weeks ago for Muniru Bola Oyebamiji to be imposed.
“Let me open up on how the Adelekes does not compare and different from them. In 2007 when Councils elections were to hold; a Cousin of the Adelekes by the name Sikiru Adeleke expressed interest to be Chairman. Late Governor Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke CON had the powers to make him emerge. This was after the current occupier of the office could no longer contest. The Adeleke Dynasty stepped down their blood and adopted Kazeem Akinleye who is today the loyal and pragmatic Cheif of Staff to the Governor of Osun State, instead to be Chairman. Akinleye ran a joint ticket with Sikiru Adeleke and they became sworn in in January 2008.
“The Adelekes did not throw up Sikiru Adeleke like Femi Oyetola is now being baked to disgrace an incumbent Biyi Ajagunla and experienced Adegboye Akintunde and learned Krad.
“The Father is a Minister and his Son is positioned to be a Senator under the same era. Oyetola and doings. Even President Tinubu did not ram Seyi Tinubu to be Lagos Governor at this time.
“The Adelekes they abuse are full of meek and integrity and fear of God. Eleda awon Biyi Ajagunla maa da fun Baba Marine oooo.”
Amiloaded had earlier reported that fresh political permutations have emerged in Osun State following the entry of Femi Oyetola, son of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, into the race for the Osun Central Senatorial District seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This development comes after a group of his friends and political allies purchased the APC senatorial nomination and expression of interest forms on his behalf, signalling growing support for his candidacy ahead of the party’s primaries.
The forms were presented on Sunday in Osogbo by a former Senior Special Assistant to the ex-governor on Student Affairs and Social Mobilisation, Kehinde Ayantunji, who acted on behalf of the Committee of Friends.
Ayantunji disclosed that the group raised a sum of ₦20 million to procure the forms, describing the move as a strategic effort to encourage Femi Oyetola to formally join the senatorial contest.
He noted that the decision was informed by Oyetola’s track record in youth empowerment and political inclusion over the past decade, expressing confidence that he could replicate such initiatives at the National Assembly if elected.
The presentation was made before stakeholders of the APC Youth Wing, who received the forms amid growing calls for increased youth participation in elective positions within the party.
As of the time of filing this report, Femi Oyetola has yet to make an official declaration regarding his ambition, but the development has already sparked discussions within political circles across the state.
