The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, describing its Renewed Hope Agenda as ineffective.
Aregbesola made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing delegates at the ADC National Convention held in Abuja, where he called on President Bola Tinubu to step down over prevailing economic and security challenges.
He accused the APC government of failing to meet expectations, noting that worsening economic conditions have placed significant hardship on Nigerians.
The former Minister of Interior stated that the naira has depreciated sharply since 2023, while fuel prices have continued to rise, increasing the burden on citizens.
Aregbesola described the Renewed Hope Agenda as misleading, warning that continued reliance on such promises without tangible results would only prolong the country’s challenges.
The former Osun State governor also criticised the state of electricity supply, noting that many communities across the country experience limited hours of power or prolonged outages.
He recalled that the administration had earlier promised to deliver stable electricity, but said the current situation reflects a decline, with some areas receiving only a few hours of power daily, while others remain in darkness for extended periods.
Aregbesola argued that based on the government’s previous commitments, the leadership ought to take responsibility for its performance, rather than pursue continuity in office.
He further alleged that the administration has compromised democratic standards, accusing it of encouraging irregularities within the electoral system.
On security, he expressed concern over the increasing rate of violent attacks across the country, describing the trend as an indication of weak leadership.
The ADC chieftain also highlighted rising poverty levels and the growing number of out-of-school children as evidence of deepening socio-economic challenges.
Positioning the ADC as a viable alternative, Aregbesola said the party is committed to addressing the nation’s challenges and restoring effective governance.
He urged Nigerians to support the ADC’s vision, warning that continued inaction could worsen the country’s situation, while calling for collective efforts to reverse the current trend.
