Six students of Federal University Lokoja have been arrested by operatives of the Kogi State Police Command over alleged involvement in cyberstalking and assault.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 14, by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Afusat, who noted that the action followed a formal complaint lodged by a male student of the institution.
Afusat disclosed that the case, involving allegations of criminal conspiracy, use of force, defamation, assault, and cyberstalking, was initially reported on March 30, 2026, at the ‘B’ Division in Lokoja by one Oladosu Sunday, a student of the university.
She added that the matter was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary findings revealed that the suspects falsely accused the victim of homosexuality without credible evidence and allegedly lured him to an apartment near the Living Faith Church area in Felele, Lokoja, on March 29, 2026.
She further stated that the victim was reportedly confined, stripped, and assaulted with belts and charging cords, while the incident was recorded and later circulated online within the university community.
Afusat added that the suspects admitted during interrogation that the act was premeditated and based on unverified assumptions about the victim’s behaviour.
The police spokesperson noted that investigation into the matter had been concluded and that the suspects had been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.
