The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded political parties, candidates and their supporters that campaigns for the 2026 Osun State governorship election will officially begin on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Osun , Musa Olurode.
Olurode stated that the commencement of campaigns is in line with the timetable and schedule of activities released by the commission for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
According to him, the commission expects political parties, their candidates and supporters to conduct their campaign activities peacefully and in an orderly manner, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 as well as INEC’s regulations and guidelines for political parties.
He added that the law prohibits the use of abusive language, hate speech, violence or any action capable of disturbing public peace during the campaign period, warning that political actors must comply with these provisions.
Olurode also advised political parties and their candidates to concentrate on issue-based campaigns that would enable voters to make informed decisions during the election.
The INEC PAO further appealed to stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, supporters, security agencies, civil society organisations, the media and members of the public, to play their roles in ensuring that the campaign period remains peaceful.
He noted that INEC in Osun State, under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Agboke, remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders to create a conducive atmosphere for political activities.
Olurode added that the commission is determined to deliver a credible, inclusive, transparent and violence-free governorship election in the state, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
