Osun
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has raised the alarm over alleged plans by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the state’s bank accounts ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The governor alleged that the anti-graft agency had concluded arrangements to freeze all Osun State Government accounts and those of top government officials.
Adeleke, in a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, described the alleged move as unlawful if carried out.
According to the statement, the alleged plan is aimed at paralysing government activities ahead of the governorship election.
The governor maintained that there was no legal basis for freezing the accounts of the state government, insisting that the EFCC lacks the legal authority to take such action.
