The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he wanted Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State to contest for a second term.
Wike and Fubara had endured a frosty relationship since the governor assumed office, but they recently reconciled their differences.
Amid the crisis between Wike and Fubara, the governor, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), lost in the party’s primary election.
Speaking during his monthly media chat, Wike said he had publicly declared during the flag-off of the ring road project that if Fubara completed the road, no one would stop him from securing a second term, adding that it was his way of endorsing the governor.
The minister also said he wanted Fubara to seek a second term because he belonged to their political structure, stressing that every political party has groups with leaders and that having a leader does not make such a person a godfather.
Wike maintained that he did not lose anything from the political crisis, insisting that Fubara was the one who lost the opportunity to seek a second term.
He further expressed affection for the Rivers governor, saying those who genuinely loved Fubara were saddened that he would not contest for another term, adding that his support for the governor was proof of his goodwill.
