Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has commissioned the Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osogbo, describing the project as the beginning of the inauguration of several completed mega infrastructure projects across Osun State.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, Adeleke described the occasion as a historic moment for Osogbo and the state, expressing gratitude to the people of the state, particularly residents of Osogbo, for their patience throughout the construction period.
The governor also commended the engineers, contractors and workers who handled the project, noting that the flyover was delivered on schedule.
Adeleke said the Lameco Flyover was part of his administration’s commitment to rebuilding Osun through investments in roads, bridges, healthcare, education and water infrastructure.
According to him, the project and other ongoing infrastructure developments were executed in line with due process and transparency without compromising the future of coming generations. He added that the quality of the flyover demonstrates the capability of local engineers to deliver projects that meet global standards.
The governor disclosed that his administration has completed more than 27 kilometres of intra-city roads in Osogbo and over 300 kilometres of roads across the state.
He also revealed that more than 10 mega projects have been completed and are ready for commissioning in different parts of Osun under the administration’s policy of equity and fairness in infrastructure development.
Adeleke urged the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, community leaders and residents to protect the newly commissioned bridge by preventing street trading on the bridge and underpass, as well as vandalism of its railings and lighting facilities.
He also appealed to motorists to drive responsibly, stressing that the flyover was constructed to save lives and improve traffic movement before formally declaring the bridge open for public use.
Representing the Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the Director of Highways, Engr. Maruf Ojebode, said all materials used for the construction of the flyover were sourced locally, while the engineers, artisans and labourers engaged on the project were based in Osun State.
Ojebode affirmed that the bridge is suitable for all categories of vehicles and appreciated Governor Adeleke for giving indigenous engineers the opportunity to demonstrate their competence in the execution of major infrastructure projects in the state.
Earlier, the Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye II, thanked Governor Adeleke on behalf of the people of Osogbo for delivering the project, describing it as a major development for the town.
The monarch prayed that God would reward the governor abundantly for executing the flyover and other projects for the benefit of the people.
