..demands zoning arrangement
Youth and students of Ife-North local government extraction in Osun State have lamented the systemic marginalisation of the council from political position and developmental strides in the federal constituency.
The group, under the aegis of Concerned Stakeholders, Youth Representatives, Student Leaders, and Union executives from council, disclosed that Ife-North, a state constituency under Ife federal constituency has always been disadvantaged compared to Ife-Central, Ife-South and Ife-East local government council areas politically.
Addressing newsmen in Ipetumodu on Thursday, on behalf of the coalition, the Chairman, Bolaji Olabode stressed the need for an enforceable zoning framework to rotate the House of Representatives ticket among the councils that made up the federal constituency.
He charged political parties in the State to zone its House of Representatives ticket to the town, saying the critical stakeholders in the town will work with any party that deem it fit to zone its ticket to the local government, calling on resident and indigenes of the town to jettison party affiliation for the development of the council.
His words, “We request a clear, transparent, and enforceable zoning framework that recognizes Ife-North as a legitimate stakeholder and guarantees the rotation of key political offices within the Ife Federal Constituency.
“We request that all political parties—particularly the APC and the ACCORD Party—zone their 2027 House of Representatives tickets to competent and credible members from Ife-North.
“We ask for a deliberate and enforceable commitment to equitable political inclusion of Ife-North in both elective and appointive positions within the Ife Federal Constituency and Osun State at large. We are prepared to mobilize and work with any political party willing to enter into a concrete agreement with us—specifically on the House of Representatives ticket and the appointment of a commissioner in the forthcoming governorship cycle”.
The group added that Ife-North demand balanced representation, “where the development needs of Ife-North- education, employment, empowerment, infrastructure, and economic support are treated as priorities, not afterthought”
