A Nigerian banker has expressed frustration over his prolonged career stagnation, revealing that he has spent 18 years working as a contract staff in a commercial bank.
In a post circulating online, the banker admitted that he is not proud of his current situation, describing his experience as one marked by endurance rather than professional fulfillment.
He disclosed that despite holding both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s degree, he has not had the opportunity to utilize his qualifications in his current role.
According to him, he has been actively searching for better opportunities over the past year, submitting several job applications without success, a situation he said has left him feeling stuck and, at times, unfortunate.
The banker further reflected on his journey, noting that the realities of the system have made him question the true value of his educational achievements. He lamented that merit alone does not always guarantee career advancement in the country.
He stressed that the lack of connections often serves as a major barrier to success, suggesting that individuals without influential networks may struggle to progress regardless of their qualifications.
The development has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences and concerns about unemployment, underemployment, and the challenges faced in the labour market.
