President Bola Tinubu has announced the creation of a special fund to support members of the Armed Forces, including wounded personnel and families of fallen soldiers, as he marked his 74th birthday.
The President disclosed in a statement on Sunday that he has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a dedicated account for the initiative.
He said the fund is aimed at supporting personnel injured in the line of duty and the dependents of those who died while serving the country.
Tinubu also pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative, noting that the gesture is in addition to existing insurance and welfare schemes for members of the Armed Forces.
He called on governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector stakeholders, and other well-meaning Nigerians to support the initiative, adding that details of the account would be made available in due course.
The President emphasised the need to recognise and honour the sacrifices of military personnel and their families, describing the initiative as a responsibility rather than an act of charity.
