The Chairman of the Governing Council of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa, Alhaji Abayomi Adegoke, has called for increased participation of Muslims in politics to enable them benefit from the dividends of democracy.
Adegoke made the call on Sunday while speaking At the 5th Annual General Meeting of Iragbiji (Boripe) Baytul-Maal Islamic Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited, A cooperative Society funded by Taawunu Islamic Organization of Nigeria.
He urged Muslims not to distance themselves from politics, noting that active participation in the democratic process remains a key avenue for accessing the benefits of governance. He added that politics should not be left in the hands of a few individuals.
Adegoke also commended the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, stating that the government had supported cooperative societies across the state with billions of naira without political bias over the past three years.
He expressed satisfaction with developmental projects executed across the state and noted that the governor’s sacrifices, including the use of personal benefits to fund projects, had contributed to the state’s progress.
He, therefore, urged residents to support the governor’s re-election bid to enable continuity of development efforts.
According to him, “Based on the developmental projects that Gov. Adeleke is executing across Osun State, I am very proud of those achievements, and I believe that with the record and sacrifices the Governor has made to move the state forward, by forfeiting some of his personal benefits, such as security vote funds, to execute many projects. I urge you all to support the governor so he can continue his great work till 2030.”
The council chairman further commended the President General/Amir Taawun, Sheikh Dawood Imran Molasan for his dedication to the propagation of Islam and his contributions to religious teachings across the region.
He stressed the importance of education, noting that knowledge remains a vital tool for development, and urged Islamic leaders to prioritise both religious and Western education among their followers.
Adegoke also praised the cooperative society for its role in community development, particularly through the establishment of schools for vulnerable groups and empowerment programmes for members, pledging continued support for its initiatives.
Earlier in his remarks, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi, emphasised the importance of education among Muslims and urged parents to provide sound education for their children.
The monarch also called for increased financial contributions from Muslims towards community development and prayed for continued progress in the society.
He further urged unity among Muslims, expressing optimism that stronger collaboration would enhance fundraising efforts for developmental projects and promote the growth of Islamic teachings.
Delivering a lecture on the theme, “The Role of Muslims in Societal Reformation through Islamic Propagation and Humanitarian Services,” the President General/Amir Taawun, Sheikh Dawood Imran Molasan, urged Muslims to be more proactive in the democratic process for the benefit of society.
