The Ghanaian Ministry of Gender has introduced a new application, Marrify, to enable people planning to get married to verify the marital status of their prospective partners.
The application was unveiled at a ceremony in Ghana attended by the country’s Minister of Gender, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
Marrify was developed and launched in partnership with MarryRight, an agency focused on family law and marriage.
Speaking at the event, Lartey said the application would give prospective couples access to information that could help them make better-informed decisions before getting married.
She added that the initiative was also aimed at encouraging relationships founded on respect and contributing to efforts to prevent gender-based violence.
According to Lartey, the launch gives couples an opportunity to approach marriage with greater awareness and a stronger sense of responsibility.
