The Accord Party has said it will scrutinise the results of the just-concluded Osun State governorship election and challenge areas where it believes irregularities occurred.
Chairman of the Election Surveillance and Voter Education Committee of the Imole Campaign Council, Yemi Lawal, disclosed this on Monday while speaking on Western Spring Television.
Lawal said the campaign council had expected Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Accord candidate, to win by a wider margin based on its internal calculations, which projected a difference of between 150,000 and 200,000 votes.
He said the party was disappointed that the final result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) put Adeleke’s margin at 66,252 votes, adding that the figures would now be subjected to further scrutiny.
Lawal said the party would examine the results at polling units and other areas where it suspected that certain developments may have affected the outcome before determining the appropriate action to take.
Adeleke was declared winner of Saturday’s governorship election after securing 511,067 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a 66,252-vote lead over Oyebamiji, significantly below the margin the campaign council had projected before the election.
