Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola suffered a defeat at his polling unit in Ilesa on Saturday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a clear victory in the ongoing governorship election.
The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, polled 256 votes at the polling unit, while the Accord Party candidate and incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke, recorded 43 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 13 votes.
The result is significant given Aregbesola’s status as a former governor of Osun State and a prominent political figure in Ijesaland.
The polling unit had attracted attention ahead of the election, with Aregbesola’s presence adding to the interest surrounding the voting exercise in the area.
Oyebamiji’s 213-vote margin over Adeleke also gave the APC a strong advantage at the polling unit, with the party’s total exceeding the combined votes secured by Accord and ADC.
