The Accord Party has declared its intention to end the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) hold on the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
The party’s candidate for the constituency in the 2027 election, Pelumi Olajengbesi, made the declaration in Abuja on Wednesday.
Olajengbesi, a legal practitioner and activist, said the time had come for fresh leadership in the constituency.
The former spokesperson of the Ademola Adeleke Governorship Campaign Council based his confidence on what he described as the outcome of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
He said he defeated Oluwole Oke in the 2026 election and would not surrender to him in 2027, describing himself as a child of necessity.
Olajengbesi said Accord secured 21,343 votes in Oriade, while the APC polled 14,863 votes. He added that Accord recorded 12,023 votes in Obokun against the APC’s 16,120 votes.
According to him, the figures gave Accord a combined 33,366 votes against the APC’s 30,983 votes, representing a margin of 2,383 votes in favour of Accord. He said the figures were contained in the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Oke contested the 2022 Osun governorship election on the platform of the APC and lost.
Olajengbesi said the PDP had held the Oriade/Obokun seat since 2003 through Oke, who is currently serving his sixth term in the House of Representatives.
He said Oke’s 24-year representation of the constituency had resulted in what he described as stagnation, stressing that one person should not continue to hold the constituency.
Olajengbesi also accused Oke of reneging on an agreement reached with him and other leaders, alleging that the lawmaker had asked them to allow him one final term and promised to support his candidacy in 2027.
He described Oke’s alleged decision to go back on the agreement as greed.
The Accord candidate said the 2027 election would be about ending what he described as a political monopoly and providing the people with new representation.
Olajengbesi added that his campaign would be grassroots-driven, saying residents of Oriade and Obokun were tired of having the same political figures returned to office.
Oke has represented the constituency since 2003 and is one of the longest-serving members of the National Assembly.
