The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned opposition politicians against expecting to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the remarks on Tuesday, August 18, during a press conference in Abuja while reacting to the outcome of the Osun State governorship election.
The minister said the results of the Osun election showed the difficulty the opposition would face in defeating Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Wike said the winning candidate in Osun secured more than 500,000 votes, while the second-place candidate polled more than 400,000 votes and the third-place candidate recorded 17,000 votes, questioning how the opposition expected to defeat the President at the national level.
He said opposition politicians should prepare themselves for what he described as another defeat in 2027, adding that they could begin planning and reorganising after the election.
Wike said the opposition could not defeat Tinubu in the 2027 election, stressing that political parties should focus on how they intend to choose leaders and address the country’s challenges rather than merely describing themselves as an opposition.
The minister also described the opposition as depleted, adding that he was among those responsible for weakening it.
