One of the daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, Kira Taiwo, has shared an emotional conversation she had with her father weeks before his death.
Kira shared the conversation on her Instagram Story on Monday, a day after the actor died at the age of 66.
The conversation, dated July 26, showed Ogogo reassuring his daughter and encouraging her to remain strong.
The actor told Kira that seeing her and her sisters smile gave him strength and urged her not to cry, saying her tears would make him sad and cause him to worry.
Ogogo, who was a Muslim, also encouraged his daughter to remain strong and trust in Allah, assuring her that nothing would happen to him, God willing.
In response, Kira assured her father that she was not crying and said she trusted in Allah, while expressing her love for him.
Ogogo reciprocated the expression of love and referred to her as his princess.
The emotional exchange came weeks before the family publicly disclosed that the actor was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for medical assistance.
Kira and her sister, Lima Taiwo, made separate emotional appeals on Instagram after Ogogo’s condition deteriorated.
Lima said the family only discovered the seriousness of his illness about three weeks earlier, noting that his physical appearance had not initially suggested that he was seriously ill.
Kira later disclosed that the actor’s cancer was at stage four and said the hospital treating him could no longer administer chemotherapy, prompting the family to seek other medical options.
Ogogo died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, according to a burial announcement shared by veteran actor Jide Kosoko.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades as an actor, filmmaker and director.
