The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, back to the party, describing his decision as a timely, patriotic and courageous homecoming.
In a statement issued on Friday on behalf of the National Leadership of the PDP under the chairmanship of Hon. Abrahman Mohammed and the Osun State Working Committee, the Osun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, said Ajagunla’s return further affirmed that the PDP remains the political home for progressive-minded politicians committed to the welfare and development of the people.
Bisi said the Senator’s decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) reflected what he described as the opposition party’s departure from democratic ideals, alleging that it had embraced greed, deception, internal oppression and the pursuit of narrow personal interests.
The PDP chairman described Ajagunla’s return as a positive development for the party and expressed confidence that it would encourage members and supporters who, according to him, had remained steadfast in their belief that truth would prevail over political expediency.
He congratulated the Senator for what he described as a bold and well-considered decision, adding that the development reinforced the growing confidence among politicians who, according to him, were rediscovering the PDP as a platform founded on justice, inclusion and genuine service to the people.
Bisi also noted that Ajagunla remains the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, saying his return strengthens the party’s preparations for future elections.
He expressed confidence that the Senator’s political experience, grassroots appeal and background as a member of a traditional political and cultural dynasty would further strengthen the party’s quest for good governance and democratic consolidation in Osun State.
The PDP chairman also referenced the defection of the member representing Iwo State Constituency, Hon. Rabiu Adesina, from the APC, saying politicians with grassroots support had continued to realise that the APC no longer rewards loyalty, sacrifice or democratic values.
According to Bisi, politicians who left the PDP for the APC had begun to appreciate the difference between politics driven by public service and politics driven by self-interest.
He maintained that the APC operates what he described as a “use-and-discard” system, adding that recent political developments had continued to validate that position.
Bisi urged politicians who left the PDP without justifiable reasons to emulate Ajagunla by returning to the party, warning that they could also become victims of what he described as the APC’s politics of abandonment and betrayal.
He said the PDP remains open to politicians willing to contribute to the development of Osun State and described Ajagunla’s return as significant at a time when stakeholders were expected to unite behind the re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Bisi said the governor’s people-oriented programmes and transformation agenda had continued to attract acceptance across political, religious and social groups in the state.
He welcomed Ajagunla back to the PDP and urged him to immediately join the task of mobilising support for the re-election of Governor Adeleke on the platform of the Accord Party, explaining that the project had received the endorsement and support of the Osun PDP following the leadership crisis that prevented Adeleke’s renomination on the PDP platform.
The PDP chairman added that the party would continue to work towards consolidating the achievements recorded by the Adeleke administration while ensuring continuity, stability and sustained development in Osun State.
Bisi assured Ajagunla and other returning members of equal opportunities, mutual respect and a conducive environment to contribute to the progress of the state and the success of Governor Adeleke’s re-election project.
