The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed as false reports circulating online alleging that corps members are being paid ₦50,000 to influence the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
In a press statement issued by Catherine Otemuyiwa on behalf of the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, the Scheme described the allegation as misleading and entirely without factual basis, stressing that it neither authorised nor coordinated any payment for political or unlawful purposes.
The NYSC maintained that at no time did it supervise or have knowledge of any such payment, insisting that the report was unfounded.
The Scheme reaffirmed its non-partisan status, stating that it remains committed to promoting national unity, discipline and selfless service.
According to the statement, corps members are consistently reminded to remain apolitical and comply with the provisions of the NYSC Act, Bye-Laws and all electoral guidelines.
The statement further disclosed that the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, has continued to sensitise corps members on the need to remain neutral, reject inducements, safeguard electoral materials and discharge their election duties in line with the Electoral Act and regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The NYSC also stated that it is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of corps members before, during and after the governorship election.
The Scheme urged members of the public to disregard the report and advised media organisations to verify information with the appropriate authorities before publication.
