The Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Tosin Odeyemi, has resigned from the party and emerged as the acting state chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA).
Odeyemi, an ally of former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 16 and addressed to the NNPP National Chairman. He, however, did not state the reason for his decision.
In the resignation letter, he formally notified the party of his exit and requested that his name and details be removed from its membership register.
On Saturday, Odeyemi unveiled his new political platform and shared his letter of appointment as the pioneer Acting State Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance in Osun State, confirming that he had accepted the responsibility of leading the party in the state.
His appointment was conveyed in a letter dated July 17, 2026, and signed by the DLA National Chairman, Mr Samuel Memeh.
Memeh said the appointment followed the approval of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), adding that Odeyemi would oversee the establishment and maintenance of party structures across Osun State, uphold the party’s constitution and ideology, and report directly to the National Working Committee on the activities of the state chapter.
Speaking with The PUNCH on Saturday, Odeyemi expressed appreciation to the DLA National Chairman, the National Executive Committee and the National Working Committee for entrusting him with the leadership of the party in Osun State.
He said he accepted the appointment with humility and a strong sense of responsibility, adding that his immediate priority would be to unite genuine members, promote discipline within the party and position the DLA as a credible alternative for residents of Osun seeking purposeful leadership.
Odeyemi also assured the party’s national leadership that the Osun chapter would be run transparently and called on members and other stakeholders to support the new political platform.
