The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has disclosed that its Ifetedo College of Law has been shut over the death of a 400-level student of Criminology and Security Studies, Miss Grace Osunlakin.
The Public Relations Officer of the university, Ademola Adesoji, in a statement issued on Thursday, did not mention what led to her death but stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident necessitated the closure of the campus.
He described the student’s death as deeply painful to the university and commiserated with the family of the deceased, who reportedly died on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
According to the statement, the decision to close the campus indefinitely was taken after careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding the incident to allow emotions to settle among students and create room for a comprehensive assessment of healthcare facilities, medical personnel and water supply systems at the Ifetedo Campus.
The university said the closure formed part of broader efforts to address longstanding challenges associated with the campus and ensure the safety, welfare and well-being of all students and staff.
It assured members of the public that it remains committed to conducting a thorough review of the situation and implementing necessary measures to prevent a recurrence.
The institution also prayed for God to grant the family of the deceased, students and the entire university community the strength to bear the loss.
The university urged all students, parents and stakeholders to remain calm and cooperate with the management as efforts are intensified to resolve the issues and restore normalcy.NAN
