Nigerian singer Qdot has publicly apologised to Muslims following backlash over comments many considered disrespectful to the Islamic faith.
Taking to his X page, the indigenous Yoruba street-pop artiste expressed regret over his remarks and asked for forgiveness from Muslims, especially those who practice their faith with sincerity and kindness.
Qdot said he never intended to insult or disrespect Islam and acknowledged that his words may have caused hurt to members of the Muslim community.
In his statement, he wrote:
“I want to offer my heartfelt apology to all Muslims, especially those who live their faith with goodness, integrity, and kindness. If at any time I spoke words that cursed, insulted, or disrespected your religion or your beliefs, I am truly sorry.”
The singer added that he deeply regrets his words and recognises that faith is precious to many people.
According to him, he respects the teachings and values of Islam and has promised to be more careful with his words going forward.
“I ask for your forgiveness and promise to be more careful, respectful, and mindful in how I speak about all religions from now on. May we live in peace and understanding together,” he added.
