The Osun State Chairman of the Labour Party, Mustapha Adebayo Muhydeen, has called for calm among residents of the state following recent incidents of political violence, including reports of gunshots and killings recorded earlier in the week.
Recall that Muhydeen, had during his inauguration, which took place on Saturday, 25th April, 2026 at Osun NUJ Press Centre, Osogbo, as the Chairman of Labour Party in Osun, emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among the residents of the state before, during and after the August 15 gubernatorial election in the state.
Reacting to the recent incident in the state, Muhydeen in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists on Thursday, June 11, expressed concern over what he described as a disturbing, rise in politically motivated violence in parts of the state, urging political actors and their supporters to embrace peace ahead of future elections.
He said the party was saddened by the recurring incidents of unrest and warned that continued violence could threaten the stability and democratic progress of Osun State.
“The Labour Party in Osun State is deeply concerned about the recent spate of violence, including gunshots and reported loss of lives in some communities. We call on all political actors and their supporters to exercise restraint and allow peace to prevail,” the statement read.
Muhydeen appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts in maintaining law and order, while also ensuring that perpetrators of violence are identified and brought to justice.
He stressed that political competition should not be turned into a battle of violence, noting that democracy only thrives in an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect.
According to him, “No political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen. We urge all stakeholders to put the interest of Osun State above partisan differences and ensure that peace is not compromised.”
The Labour Party chairman also sympathised with families affected by the recent violence, calling for support and justice for victims.
He further urged youths across the state not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence by politicians, warning that such actions only destroy their future.
Muhydeen reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to peaceful political engagement and called on all residents to remain calm while authorities address the situation.
He added that Osun State must not be allowed to descend into chaos, insisting that dialogue and lawful engagement remain the only acceptable path in a democratic society.
