The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has alleged that a planned protest by the Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council, Senator Kamarudeen Lere Oyewumi, is an attempt to divert attention from allegations linking him to previous political killings in the state.
The council, in a statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity Committee, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, on Tuesday day, said the proposed protest, purportedly aimed at seeking justice for late Ezekiel Olopade, was not motivated by genuine concern over the teenager’s death.
According to the APC campaign council, the planned demonstration was a desperate effort to shift public attention from ongoing concerns surrounding the killings of APC chieftains, Hon. Saheed Oyegunju and Hon. Remi Abass, in Irewole Local Government Area.
The council expressed sympathy with the family of Ezekiel Olopade and supported lawful efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death, but insisted that the incident should not be used for political purposes.
The statement recalled that Oyegunju, an APC treasurer in Ward 9, Irewole Local Government Area, was abducted and later found dead in February 2023 while travelling to attend an APC presidential campaign rally in Osogbo.
It also referenced the killing of former Irewole Local Government Chairman, Hon. Remi Abass, who was murdered within the premises of the local government secretariat in February 2025.
The APC campaign council claimed that allegations linking influential political figures, including Senator Oyewumi, to the incidents had remained unresolved and deserved thorough investigation by security agencies.
The council further raised concerns over the continued absence of a suspect identified as Jide Jọda, who was said to have absconded after being granted bail and remains wanted by the police.
It urged Senator Oyewumi to make himself available for investigation rather than participate in what it described as a provocative protest.
The council also called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all individuals linked to political violence in Osun State, irrespective of their political affiliations.
According to the statement, justice must be served for all victims of political violence, including Oyegunju, Abass and others affected by politically motivated attacks across the state.
The APC campaign council maintained that no individual should be above investigation or prosecution where credible allegations exist, stressing that justice must not be selective.
