Former Special Adviser on Education to ex-Osun State Governor, Jamiu Babatunde Olawumi, has stirred fresh debate within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State following a social media post suggesting that more candidates could leave the party before election.
Olawumi, who recently resigned from the APC, shared a post on Facebook on Monday claiming that “everyone is a potential quitter” in the party and that even candidates could leave at any moment, a statement that immediately attracted reactions from supporters and members of the opposition party in the state.
He wrote, “In Osun State APC, everyone is a potential quitter . Even candidates might quit any moment from now!”
The former aide to ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola was among APC chieftains linked to former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who recently resigned their membership of the party amid growing political realignments in Osun.
Taking to the comment section, One APC supporter, identified as Yakubu Atanda, accused the former aide of hypocrisy, alleging that he had benefited politically from the same individuals he now appeared to be criticizing.
He wrote “Same candidate that you collected money from during this Ileya period..Ohun leje o”
Another commenter, Balogun Kola, interpreted the post as a suggestion that the APC governorship candidate, could abandon the race, a claim that has not been substantiated.
Kola wrote, ” Which means. AMBO, will go back to his marine duties possibly as from next week”
Some APC members also dismissed the former aide’s position, insisting that the party remained united despite the recent resignations recorded in some quarters.
One commenter, Awoyemi Olayinka Rafael Nation wished Olawumi good health and a speedy recovery, while several others exchanged political banter over the state of the APC in Osun.
Awoyemi Olayinka Rafael Nation wrote “I wish you a speedy recovery from your health challenges, sir. May God grant you strength, good health, and complete restoration.”
Political observers believe the exchange reflects the tension currently surrounding the APC in Osun following the exit of some prominent party figures ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Olawumi’s resignation came weeks after he formally announced his departure from the APC, joining other former party leaders and associates of Omisore who have also quit the party in recent months.
The APC leadership in Osun has repeatedly downplayed the significance of the resignations, maintaining that the party remains strong and focused on reclaiming power in the forthcoming governorship election.
