The Muslim Political Awareness Front (MUPAF) has declared its support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
The endorsement was announced on Sunday during the group’s public orientation programme themed, “Muslim Ummah in Politics: Our Unity, Our Strength,” held in Osogbo.
Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of MUPAF, Alhaji Lukman Obembe, described Oyebamiji as a reliable, competent and God-fearing candidate who possesses the qualities needed to govern Osun State.
Obembe said the group’s decision was based on its assessment of Oyebamiji’s contributions to humanity and the people of Osun over the years.
He added that members of the organisation would mobilise support for the APC candidate across mosques and communities ahead of the election.
He urged members to engage undecided voters and encourage them to support Oyebamiji, expressing confidence that his intelligence, wisdom and sense of fairness would move the state forward.
According to him, MUPAF believes Oyebamiji would run an inclusive administration devoid of religious or ethnic bias if elected governor.
Responding to the endorsement, Oyebamiji expressed appreciation to the group for its support and assured residents that his administration would ensure equitable development across all parts of the state.
The APC candidate said his government would not concentrate development in a particular area but would spread the benefits of governance across cities, towns and rural communities in Osun State.
Oyebamiji also dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu had endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for the governorship election, insisting that he remained the APC candidate for the poll.
He described reports linking the President to the endorsement of another candidate as false and urged voters to support his aspiration during the August 15 election.
Earlier, the keynote speaker, Al-Imam Mukhtar Adedemeji Raji, called for greater unity among Muslims, stressing that collective action and support for credible leaders would attract blessings and progress for the community.
He advised Muslims participating in politics to prioritise service and value-driven leadership rather than personal interests.
Also speaking, the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Imam Yunus Ayilara II, urged Muslims in Osun State to become actively involved in politics and participate in the electoral process.
Ayilara noted that Muslims constitute a majority of the state’s population and stressed the need for unity and active political participation.
He also encouraged Muslims to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, maintaining that Islam does not oppose political participation and that involvement in governance promotes development.
