The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun State Council, has directed members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) across the state to secure local government secretariats against what it described as illegal occupants following a recent Federal High Court ruling.
The directive was contained in a circular issued on June 15, 2026, and signed by the Osun State NLC Chairman, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo.
According to the labour body, the directive followed the decision of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, which dismissed a motion filed by the affected APC “Yes/No” local government chairmen seeking to stay an earlier judgment.
The court had reportedly ruled that the chairmen were not entitled to any tenure extension and awarded costs against them.
The NLC said the judgment rendered the claims of the affected chairmen to office null, void and without legal consequence.
Consequently, the state labour leadership directed all NULGE members across the 30 local government areas, Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and Area Offices in Osun State to immediately secure council secretariats.
The congress instructed workers to ensure that all entrance gates to the secretariats are locked against the sacked chairmen, councillors and their political appointees.
It also directed that all vital administrative offices and council property be secured against the affected officials.
The NLC, however, urged workers to continue their daily administrative duties peacefully and without panic while maintaining normal activities within the secretariats.
The labour body further instructed members to immediately report any forceful attempt to breach the security of council secretariats to the state NLC leadership and law enforcement agencies.
According to the circular, the directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further communication from the Osun State Council of the NLC.
The congress reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rule of law, safeguarding public institutions and defending the rights, welfare and safety of its members across the state.
